As a concert band, we are recruiting brass, woodwind and percussion players. We play at a wide range of events and welcome beginners and experts of all ages! Please get in touch if interested!
The Eastbury Concert Band was formed in 1975, and was originally known as the Romford YMCA Concert Band. We rehearsed at the YMCA and inherited much of the music, and indeed some of the members, of the then recently disbanded Dagenham Ford Motorworks Band. The whole of that band’s extensive music library had been dumped in a disposal skip and was heroically “saved” by one of our founder members. From the YMCA, the band moved to Eastbury House in the London Borough of Barking, where we rehearsed for many years, so subsequently we adopted the name of the Eastbury Concert Band. Nowadays we rehearse in the Bower Hall, in the picturesque village of Havering- atte-Bower, which is in the north of the London Borough of Havering, but we still retain our name as the Eastbury Concert Band. We have always welcomed musicians of all ages and abilities and continue to do so to this day.
The Eastbury Concert Band is a wind band with a make-up similar to a military band however, unlike a military band, we sit, rather than march, when we play. As opposed to a purely brass band our band comprises both brass and reed instruments, together with percussion. There are no stringed instruments. There are up to 24 of us at any one time and we have a very wide repertoire of music, from classics to pop and from show music to dance music as well as military music. We perform for both private and public entertainment as well as for charity functions. We rehearse every week in the London Borough of Havering, and most important of all, we have great fun, and of-course, continuously strive to improve our musicianship. We are always open to welcoming new musician members and to taking on new performance commitments.
